Chinese Dumplings ‘Party’

We are facing unprecedented times and we miss all our members.  While exercising social distancing, it is still important for us to keep in touch.  We wanted to share one of the delightful experiences with you! Let’s make some Chinese Dumplings!

We are presenting this short video as a prelude for our dumpling making ‘party’.

We also present a simple recipe for some delicious dumplings.

Meat Dumplings (Jiao Zi)

Filling:

1 Pound lean pork

6 stalks scallions

1 slice ginger, chopped fine

1 teaspoon soy sauce

1 pound celery cabbage

2 tablespoons sesame seed oil

6 leeks (white part only), finely chopped

1 teaspoon salt

1 egg

Wrapping: 

Purchase dumpling wrappers from a nearby Asian Market.  

Add the pork and scallions through a food processor and add the ginger, soy sauce, and salt. Mix well. Chop the cabbage fine, put in a towel and squeeze to extract as much water as possible. Mix the cabbage thoroughly with the meat mixture and add the sesame seed oil and chilli oil. Finally add the leeks and season with salt. Place in the refrigerator.

Place about ½ teaspoons filling in each wrapping, folder over, pinching the edges together with thumb and index finger to seal. Dip your index finger in the water and gently wet the edges of the wrapping before pinching the edges together, as water is like glue that can make the wrapping seal easier.

Bring a large saucepan of water to boiling point, drop in the dumplings and boil for about 5 minutes or until they are cooked through. Server 4 or 5 in individual bowls with side dishes of soy sauce, vinegar and pepper. 

The above quantities will make about 20 medium sized Jiao Zi.
